1900 Inventions

Nuclear power was to the twentieth century what steam power had been to the nineteenth: a game changer. Nuclear power was better than steam power because nuclear didn’t pollute, was efficient, was unlimited. The downsides to nuclear power is that it can be used to create the most dangerous and destructive weapons of all time, for example the nuclear bomb. They also created radioactivity. An example of a chemical explosion is Tsar Bomb. The explosion was 30 on October 1961 in Soviet Union.

Apple was invented in 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Some things that computers do for us is writing books, tracking finances and keeping photos. They are entertaining humans with movies, television and games. The computer is replacing many jobs as the computers do things more efficient and cost less.

We use airplanes for many reasons other than travel. They are used to serve in the air force. Fighting in wars with planes such as fighter jets. They are used when there is a natural disaster to drop off supplies to help. During the time of the first and the latest Air New Zealand planes many things have been invented and other inventions have been improved.

The car replace the horse and buggy. Henry Ford assembly-line production style made the automobile affordable and accessible to the average person (before Ford’s Model T was introduced in 1908., only the fabulously wealthy could afford a car). The automobile gave everyone a degree of mobility and personal freedom our forefathers could only dream of, and turned entire generations of teenagers into raging revheads. The car has changed a lot over time. The body of the car has changed has changed in shape, the high up build has changed to the low ride build. The roof of the car has changed in materials. The main thing that has changed is the engine, the big bulky engines have now been replaced by much smaller engines. Petrol has also been replaced by electricity. Gas Stations now have a stop where people can recharge their cars.

Positives of Rockets
Negatives of rockets
Able to access Outer Space
Terror Weapon
Exploration of other planets
Cause of pollution
Greater Scientific knowledge
Underestimated risk
Able to have gadgets like GPS
Too many complications

The submarine was invented in the 1880’s by Cornelius Debbrel. They were used in World War 2 to sink weapons and ships.

Antibiotics was invented in 1928 by Alexander Fleming. Fleming discovered this on accident and Penicillin has gone down in history as the greatest mistake in history. This changed life forever because before 1928 any little disease was often fatal as their was no proper way of treating it.

Television has had both negative and positive effects on the world. The positives would be that we can be informed quickly about any breaking news, it is an easy way to pass information. Television also gives a cheap way of entertainment. The negatives of television is that some people spend too much time watching it and it is one reason for unhealthy people.

Before the invention of the internet people would use newspapers and magazines to gather their information. They would have to think of their own way of information.

Checking for sports draws
Gathering information
Creating presentations
Writing reports
Looking up assignments
Emailing teachers
Watching Videos
Using math websites
Using tools
Sharing work

The radio was crucial in World War 2 because soldiers were able to listen to what was going on back home and around the war. It was a way of communication. The internet has impacted the radio as it took away the use for the radio. The internet has all the information at the click of a button.

Math Reflection - Geometry Study

  • The mathematical ideas and concepts that I learned was how angles are related in circles and what older mathematicians contributed to maths. I never really related angles with circle as they have no corners, but I learnt how angles are inside the circles. I learnt about what old mathematicians contributed to maths, and how their ideas are still used today.
  • I still have questions about angles in circles as I still don't really understand how it works.
  • The new vocabulary that I have learnt is:
  • Pythagoras Theorem: The theory created by Pythagoras states the relationships between the sides of a right triangle.
    Golden Ratio: 1:1:618
  • The similarities between M.C Escher and Egyptians is that they both used mathematical terms and concepts to create artwork. The Egyptians used maths to create the pyramids and other structures like the sphinx. M.C Escher used mathematical theories to create artwork. The main theory he used was tessellations.
  • My strength was the presentations. I worked quickly and managed to only take 3 days out of the 7 days given to complete both presentations. My weakness was being able to use the Geogebra tools t create the diagrams.

Camera Techniques

Technique
Definition
Example
Establishing Shot
Usually the first shot of a new scene, designed to show audience the setting, usually a very wide shot.
est.jpg
Extreme Long Shot
Normally used to show the exterior i.e, the outside of a building. USed to establish the scene.
extlon.jpg
Long Shot
Long shot is used to show the background or venue in where the event is taking place.
long.jpg
Mid Shot
Shows some of the subject in detail while giving the impression of the whole subject. Used during dialogue sequences. Allows audience to pick up on subjects movement.
mid.jpg
Close Up
Zoomed on a certain part or feature of a subject. They are normally on a person's face to show expression. Useful for showing detail.
close.jpg
Extreme Close Up
It is used to allow the audience to enter the characters personal space, they are zoomed in very close to a particular feature of a subject. They are used to convey emotion.
extclo.jpg
POV
Shows the perspective of the character often looking through the characters eyes. During this shot you never see the characters whose view you are viewing from. They often used to add drama in chase scenes.
pov.jpg
Over The Shoulder
Filmed from just behind a person. They tend to show the back of a person’s head. They are used to show the subjects point of view.
ots.jpg
Bird’s Eye View
Is an elevated shot of an object from above.
bev.jpg
Low Angle
Camera looks upwards towards a subject to make the subject look powerful.
lo.jpg
High Angle
Camera looks downwards to subject to make the subject look weak.

hi.png
Tracking
Used to observe a character on the move.
Panning
Horizontal movement of the camera. Used to follow a moving subject.
Zoom
Altering the length of the shot. To either increase or decrease the length of a shot on a character.
Fade
Used for transitions from scene to scene
Wipe
When one shot is replaced by another.
