To make copper sulfate crystals (salt) by neutralising copper oxide (base) with a sulfuric acid (HSO)
Method:
Follow the method on Page 39 of your Scipad book.
Observations: (write an observation for each key stage of the process - full sentences please)
1. I noticed that the acid was too strong for the base as we went through four full bottles of the base and the solution was still a dark red colour when tested with universal indicator
2. I could see the salt forming on the bottom of the petri dish while the water was evaporating
3. The salt was not in a crystal form like I thought it would, it was a powdery substance
Results:
Conclusion: We managed to create some salt by successfully neutralising the acid and base.
Word equation for the reaction:
Hydrochloric Acid + Sodium Hydroxide --- Sodium Chloride + Water
Balanced chemical equation for the reaction:
HCI + NaOH = NaCI
